The Goossens recorded here is powerful and very striking in its chromatic language and strongly emotional content. Hurlstone's Sonata is noteworthy for its sustained lyricism and wit and is beautifully wrought. Turnbull's Sonata is full of extended melodic lines and broad climaxes underpinned by a rich harmonic language and sonority redolent of Debussy and Ravel, both composers he greatly admired.
Madeleine Mitchell – Violin
Andrew Ball – Piano
“Three gorgeously, lyrical, romantic British violin sonatas played with great affection by Madeleine Mitchell and Andrew Ball. Highly recommended”. Ian Lace, Classical Music Web
