Lars Anders Tomter, Viola; Håvard Gimse, Piano. Coupled with a world premiere recording of the Suite of four movements from “The Gadfly” and the Viola Sonata Op.147. Beautifully laid out for the viola and piano – Lars Anders Tomter is one of today’s most oustanding violists(“The Giant of the Nordic Viola” – The Strad). Håvard Gimse has established himsef as one of the leading Scandinavian international pianists.
The Cello Sonata was composed in 1934 and dedicated to the cellist Viktor Kubatsky. Kubatsky also made, with the composer’s encouragement and approval, an edition of the cello part for viola. This version, therefore, has considerable significance and authenticity, and, more than thirty years after it first appeared, this is its first recording in the western world.
“The Gadfly”, also a world premiere recording, is brilliantly put together for viola and piano.
