BBC Music Magazine‘s November 2019 issue features a five-star review for Alexander Karpeyev’s Composers at the Savile Club recording:
“What do Elgar, Walton, Parry, Virgil Thomson, and Arnold have in common? Answer: they were all members of the Savile Club… Stylistically it ranges widely, from the sweepingly Brahmsian Prelude of Parry’s Hands Across the Centuries suite, to the pin-point consicion of Virgil Thomson’s Ninteen Portraits… Both show Karpeyev to be deft at switching idioms and good at immediately establishing a specific atmosphere. … Trumpet fanfares by Malcolm Arnold and Julian Anderson (written for the Savile’s 100th and 150th anniversaries) frame a recital which is eminently worth investigating.”
